A Practical Welcome to Grade 7’s

Grade 7 students from Twin Rivers Elementary students spent 4 sessions at SHSS over the past week, learning about different electives. As part of the BC elementary curriculum students learn design skills as they relate to applied design and skills technology. Over the past two weeks Mr. Redfern’s Twin Rivers grade 7 students have worked with Ms. Nuyens and Mrs. Kuiper in the Foods Room, Mr. Richards in the Metal Shop, and Ms. McKay in Business Education. Students made cookies, a metal ring, and designed amazing lawn mowing machines. We look forward to working with these students next year when they enter grade 8 at SHSS!

Please bring water!

As you are probably aware, Castlegar is under a “Boil Water” advisory. Drinking water is being delivered to the school daily but with hot weather and our large student population, it is difficult to ensure that everyone can have access to water throughout the day.

Please have your child bring drinking water from home until the advisory has been lifted.

Thank you for helping us in this manner and we hope to be back to using our water fountains soon!

Opportunity for Metis youth!

Did you know that there are amazing funding opportunities for Metis students?

Erinn Willoughby from the ASETS Employment and Training program will be at SHSS on May 29th at 11:00am to talk about helping you to fund certificate, diploma or degree programs. No status card is required to apply for this support.

Come meet Erinn to find out more. Talk to Michele or Lesley in Indigenous Support Services who can give you the details!
